Exploding Hodgepodge

1. July 20th marks the anniversary of the first time man stood on the moon. Flash forward 42 years to July 8, 2011 which marked the start of the final Space Shuttle mission. Should we continue to explore space? Should nations devote more or fewer of their resources to exploring space? Would you want to go into space if the opportunity arose?

I really don't know how to answer this question. It is sad to me, that we have launched our final space mission. I guess I never thought the day would come. But, to say that it is, right now, the best use of our country's money, when so many people are unemployed, and without health care? I can't say that either. So, how about I just leave it as, I don't know!

I definitely would not want to ever go into space myself. That would require me to fly, which I hate. I do fly, but there is a lot of prayer and deep breathing involved. I don't like heights, nor do I enjoy being gone away from my family for long periods of time, which are two things that would be required of me to be in space. I admire others who have gone though, and I enjoy looking at the pictures they have taken.

2. What are three things in your freezer?

Butter Pecan ice cream, sweet potato fries, and hamburgers. Sounds like dinner to me :)

3. If you could see any band/artist perform live tonight who would it be? It has to be someone living...no Beatles, Elvis, etc.

It would be Keith Urban. I ♥ him! It is on my "must do" list to see him in concert. Here he is, singing to me. Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?

4. Ice-cubed or crushed? Or are you one of those people who don't like ice?

I prefer my ice crushed, but I will take cubed, if crushed is not an option. I love ice! I have been known to put my Diet Coke in the freezer, until it forms ice crystals. YUM! I won't mention that there have been times I have forgotten it was in there, and then, do you know what happens to pop in the freezer?
Yeah....what a mess.

5. The owner of a small restaurant outside of Pittsburgh recently announced he was banning children under six, saying they regularly disrupted other customer's meals. You can read the story in more detail here but isn't this a perfect topic to discuss in our Wednesday Hodgepodge? Have at it friends...what are your thoughts?

I can see how that could be a good thing. When the girls were little, we just didn't go out to eat at fancy restaurants. There is only so much quiet time you can expect from small children! If it is one of the few times I go to a fancy restaurant, without my kids, and I have to sit next to a crying baby, or screaming toddler, it is a big disappointment. Usually, I am there to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. I didn't come there to hear that. I came to have a nice, quiet meal with adult conversation.

6. What was your first car? How did it come to be yours?

It was a 1982 Honda Civic, light blue. There was no power steering, and it was being worked on more than I ever drove it. It was bought with my own hard earned money. The last time I ever drove it, black smoke was billowing out of it, due to a blown head gasket. Alas, it would have cost more to fix it, than I had even paid for the car.
.
7. If I had a nickle for every time I _________________ I'd be rich.

I would have to say, for every time I heard the word "Mom!" This would be said in that whiny, shrill, "you must do something now" tone of voice that any mother knows all too well.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Last night, I had a Stella and Dot Trunk Show at my house.

You can check out the jewelry online at www.stelladot.com/djaye if you are interested. Their jewelry has been featured in magazines such as "People's Style Watch", "All You", "O", "Redbook" and "Marie Claire". It was featured on the shows "Gossip Girl", and "The View."

  5. I wouldn't mind seeing Keith Urban, but Toby will always be my first choice. That jewelry is gorgeous. I've recently turned into the Imelda Marcos of necklaces. I love them...and those are so stinkin' cute!

  6. First of all, what's in your freezer? I am going to the store RIGHT NOW, kids asleep and all, to stock up. It sounds so good!

I'm a "put the soda in the freezer" person too. I forget about it about 80% of the time, so I should quit doing it, but if you get it out at JUST the right time, it is so delicious, there are not even words to describe it.

    Thanks for stopping by!
