Strawberry....but not the fruit

On my last post, I listed several examples of how Hubs and I are opposites. One of those, if you remember, was that he loves sports, and me? Not so much.

He loves sports so much, that he is willing to suffer personal injury to win the game. Case in point?

My man has some sexy legs ;)

What? Did you say you couldn't see that well enough? Here. Let me give you a closer look.

This, my friends, is what is called a "Strawberry". One gets one of these by "sliding" into a base.

Just for the record, in order for MY leg to look like this, a herd of wild elephants would have to physically drag me across the field. I would never willingly subject my limbs to this kind of torture. If we lost the game because I wouldn't slide into base? Oh well. C'est la vie. Better luck next time. That could be why I don't play sports.

I was actually surprised when Hubs showed up with one this time. Usually, I wouldn't be. But, this time, I was. Why is that? Because Hubs had said his sliding days were over. Now that he has reached the BIG 40.

He told me that he would just leave the sliding to the younger guys on the team. All righty then. Sounded like a good idea to me.

So, when he showed up with this, I was rather shocked. If you are planning on sliding, you have a special pad that goes over your leg to help prevent this from happening. Why did you not wear it?

Well....because he really wasn't planning on sliding, but he HAD to slide. The game depended on it! He did say that while he was sliding, he realized that it was probably a bad idea. Oops.

In case you were wondering, the sliding didn't help. He still got out. They did however win the game.

So, it is Nurse Amiee (moi) to the rescue. We have a well-stocked pharmacy here.

This was actually not as bad as he has had in the past. There have been times we have had to dig stones out of the wound. *Shudder*

So, even though I have suggested that he wear the leg pad to games, just in case, he says he won't. Why? He doesn't plan on sliding.

Wednesday Hodgepodge

If you go here: http://joyce-fromthissideofthepond.blogspot.com/ you will find the pic that I was supposed to put here to follow along with this link. However, no matter how hard I tried, it would not publish the pic. Kept saying something was "broken". Then, I tried to post this several times, and somehow, it deleted itself. *Sigh* Here we go again. Forgive me. I'm new.

1. What makes you stand to your feet and cheer?

~ When Hubs hits a home run in softball :) Also, although I'm not literally standing, I am cheering on the inside when another orphan appears on the "My Family Found Me" page on reecesrainbow.org

2. What is your favorite patriotic song?

~ I love "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood

3. Do you believe that opposites attract? If you have a significant other, are you opposites?

~ Yes, I do. Hubs and I are almost complete opposites. Here are just a few examples:

Him: Sports lover. He loves to watch just about every sport there is to watch, and also enjoys playing sports.

Me: Not so much

Me: I love to read. I will read anything, as long as it interests me.

Him: Not so much (unless it involves sports....)

Him: Laid back

Me: High strung

Him: Loves being outdoors

Me: I like being outdoors, but only under certain circumstances. And, camping? No thanks. I prefer a nice hotel.

Me: Deep thinker and feeler

Him: Just the facts

Him: Risk taker

Me: Rule follower (well....most of the time ;)

We are alike on the things that matter most though, and THAT is what counts!

4. You're going to get a behind the scenes look someplace....where would you like that someplace to be?

~ I would love to see how the magicians perform their unbelievable stunts, such as making buildings disappear. I know it isn't real, but it sure seems like it is!

5. How far would you have to travel to ride a carousel (merry-go-round)?

~ Since I'm assuming you don't mean the one built for toddlers at the local park, I would have to drive about an hour. I think they have one at the mall. I know. It's sad that I have to drive an hour to go to a mall.

6. When was the last time you saw fireworks? What was the occasion? Do you enjoy fireworks?

~It was probably the last 4th of July. Yes, I do enjoy them.

7. Of all the "beauty products" you own, what item do you consider to be the most overpriced?

~ I think they all are! LOL Probably the one I consider most overpriced for the amount you get would be concealer. Since the older I get, the more necessary that little jar becomes, I buy it anyway. Mama doesn't do the "natural" look.

8. Insert your own random thought.

~ My oldest daughter is away at Summer camp. We are supposed to write the kids "letters" that we email to them. Since they are not allowed to be on the computer, they receive the letters, but they never answer them. It is very strange to write someone who never writes you back.

Me: "How was your day?"
Her: *Silence*

Me: "Are you having fun?"
Her: *Sound of crickets*

Me: "Did you make any new friends?"
Her: *Still nothing*

You get the picture.

The Beginning

So, for quite some time now, my oldest daughter has been wanting me to start a blog. I certainly read enough of them! One of my "hobbies" is reading blogs. But, what to write about? I have decided my blog will be about a little of everything. Sort of like my life.

Why did I choose the name "Promises and Secrets?" It does sound rather mysterious, hmm? I thought of all of these other great names to use, but they were already taken. Hubs wanted me to use "Living Life With The Top Down", as we like to go cruising in the convertible, but, I wasn't sure how that would sound. That's me. Always worried about what people will think. That one wasn't taken though. Ha! I typed in lyrics to songs. Taken. Catch phrases. Taken. Too cutesie. Too lame. Too hard to remember.

I came across the book "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. Our church did a study on it years ago, and just recently, I decided to read it again. Flipping through the pages, I came to a page that listed Psalm 25:14 in the Bible that says, "Friendship with God is reserved for those who reverence him. With them alone he shares the secrets of his promises" (Living Bible). Promises and secrets...
