Sunshine Hodgepodge

1. What song reminds you of a specific time in your life and what is it about that song that makes you remember?

"You Are My Sunshine". I used to sing this to my girls when they were babies. I loved singing to them as I rocked them to sleep.

I only sang the "You are my sunshine" part of the song to them. I didn't realize that the song goes on....and is quite depressing!

The other night dear as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
When I awoke dear I was mistaken
And I hung my head and cried

You are my sunshine my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know dear how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I'll always love you and make you happy
If you will only stay the same
But if you leave me to love another
You'll regret it all someday

You are my sunshine my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know dear how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

You told me once dear you really loved me
And no one else could come between
But now you've left me and love another
You have shattered all of my dreams

You are my sunshine my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know dear how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

~ Jimmie Davis

Yeah...glad I just sang the "You are my sunshine" part to them.

2. What's something you've given up on?

Being good at sports. I tried to play a few, and I am just not very good. Maybe if I tried harder, I might get better. But....I don't want to ;)

3. What's something you'll never give up on?

My family! They mean the world to me.

4. If you had to cook something from scratch in the next hour what would it be?

Do you mean without a recipe? Maybe "Cheeseburger Soup". It is a family favorite.

5. Have you started Christmas shopping? Decorating? Listening to Christmas music?

A little. But, ONLY because I was in the right place at the right time. Usually, I don't start shopping for Christmas until after Thanksgiving.

No, I refuse to decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving. One holiday at a time, people!

No, I haven't started listening to Christmas music yet. However, I was forced to listen to it when I was in the store. They were playing it BEFORE Halloween! Pretty soon, we will just start celebrating Christmas in July!

6. What do you know about your parent's wedding?

I know that I was the flower girl, and my brother was the ring bearer.

I know that on the day they got married, their town was experiencing a severe blizzard, and people were advised NOT to travel on the roads!

I know that there are hardly any pictures, and the ones that they do have were not taken professionally.

I know my Mom wore a borrowed dress.

I know they didn't have a fancy honeymoon.

I know that regardless of all of that, they are still together today, and have been a wonderful example to Hubs and I of what love truly means ♥

7. I can't believe I _______________.

....am 37 years old, and I am being tested for emphysema. What?! How is that even possible? I am a non-smoker. Never smoked even a single cigarette in my entire life. They told me my lungs are functioning like a 63 yr. old smoker. A smoker!

I am going to the hospital on Thursday (which just so happens to be my birthday) to have further testing done to determine exactly WHY my lungs are functioning that way. Whatever that test reveals, will determine what further tests I will need, and what medicines they will give me. Prayers would be greatly appreciated.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I know this is late, but here are some pictures from our church's "Trunk or Treat". This takes place on Halloween, and is open to the community. Hubs and I did a "Birthday" trunk, as both of our birthdays are soon after Halloween. It was great fun to tell the kids "Happy Birthday!" as they approached our trunk. You should have seen all of the puzzled looks we got! Some little kids even told me that it was NOT their birthday. Haha! We did encounter a few people who had Halloween birthdays though.

It is a great outreach activity as 10% of our town comes to our church parking lot that night. We pass out candy, hot chocolate and coffee, and have a drawing for free bikes. The kids always enjoy it, and this year, we had perfect weather.

My youngest and I, wrapping the "presents". One of the presents we wrapped, was actually toilet paper. When the neighbor girl came over, she got all excited, and asked what was in the present. When I told her toilet paper, she looked at me, like I was very weird, and said "Who wants toilet paper for a present?!" Ha!

"Happy Birthday!"

My middle daughter with her friend. They dressed up as twins :)

My three girls together. They were a glowing stick person, twin, and Hello Kitty.

Here is our glowing stick person....in the dark....glowing!

  2. Cool glowing stick costume!
Aimee, your questions got me to thinking. Very interesting.
My favorite song was I Can't Help Falling in Love With You" by Elvis. This song was played at our Jack and Jill shower for us to dance to so we claimed it. I guess my mother in law requested it. Funny but she also gave me a jewelry box for my birthday the next year that played "Strangers in the Night"! lol
Thanks for this blog, it is fun getting to know my cousins this way since we are so far apart. I will be starting one after the holidays. I hope you will visit it.
    Hugs,
    Cousin Cheryl

  3. I always sang "You Are My Sunshine", too. I never knew all of the words...it kind of loses something now :( LOL

I hope your tests go well, and your lung problem gets resolved. I'll remember you in my prayers.

  4. Cute pictures. So sorry about your lungs. I pray they find the right medications. I am the only one in my family who has lung problems. It has been 40 years for me now. I am putting my tree up at Thanksgiving because the kids will be here to help set it up but I won't decorate yet!

  6. Hi Amiee! I'm your newest follower. I found your blog through Debby@Just Breathe...

Your answer to #2 gave me a giggle. I'm with you, I'm not very good at sports and at this point in my life, I'm okay with that!

...and Cheeseburger Soup? Never heard of it, but sounds delicious!

  7. cool costumes! ;)

My grandmother had emphysema that claimed her life when she was 72. ;/ She too did not smoke, but her parents were frequent smokers. Also she lived in L.A. which is notorious for smog. Hopefully you will get a good prognosis.

Yes concerts are fun sometimes but the aftermath is torturous to some peoples ears ;(

  8. Great theme for Trunk or Treat! I'll have to remember that one. And I am really sorry to hear about the lungs! How disturbing and puzzling. Keep us posted on the outcome of the tests.

  10. I didn't realize that "You Are My Sunshine" was THAT depressing. I'm glad I too only sang the first verse to my boys!
I'm not good as sports either, so I watch my boys play instead and route from the stands! ;-)
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Have a good day!
